Dear all,

I have a problem with my manual transmission. I wonder whether it is a problem at all, since I'm particularly new to Perodua's manual transmission. I'm driving a Viva 660. Let me describe the scenario where the problem happens:

1. From standstill, drive in 1st gear until more than 2500rpm.
2. Quickly change to 2nd gear within 1 second.

The problem lies in when after step #2, there's a very short pulse of gear grinding. It feels like the gears are trying to engage (or synchronise) in that short interval. It is very short, about 0.5 seconds. It is not loud, but can be felt. Out of 10 gear changes within 1 second, the gear grinding happens 7 times. This also happens when changing 2nd gear at 2500rpm to 3rd gear within 1 second, but much less frequent (3 out of 10 gear changes). Clutch is not a problem as it is fully depressed for each gear change. Clutch free-play is also not a problem as Perodua SC has adjusted my clutch free-play properly. Note that all these will not happen at all in the following conditions:

i. Gear change in any other higher gears.
ii. Gear change happens more than 1 second.

My previous manual transmission vehicle, Proton Wira 1.3 Aeroback does not have this problem at all. But the Wira has been droved for quite a while (~1 year) before I drove it. I was wondering if this problem has to do with Viva being still new, and need some time for all the mechanical parts to settle comfortably with each other. I need to clarify that I'm not changing gears like I'm racing. I'm just driving normally.

Has anyone with Viva 660 out there experiencing this problem? I would appreciate if any member can provide some insights into this. Thanks!
