hmmm... went to Perodua showroom yesterday night. here is my review on
Viva.

1) Exterior - When I look at the design, it look quite impressive at
first. But after a while, it look dull and familiar too. Then the
salesman quickly said is almost similar to Advanza design and concept.
Just remove the luggage compart section and look the same. The more I
look, the more it look like kancil (new design type). Just expanded of
Kancil.

2) Interior - Look quite dull to me especially the CD player... look so
fake. Basically, the gear & handbrake compartment - same design with
Kelisa - admit by Salesman. The door panel look very plastic (but for
that price - consider alright) and have minor defect on the showroom car.
The luggage compart (for MHO) - look smaller than kelisa.

About the seat - the rear passenger look spacious - good.

3) Engine - Claimed to be same engine with MYVI - 1.0cc. When asked about
spare part list and price, claimed to be the same as Kelisa. Nothing
fancy about it and it have 61 horsepower (for 1000cc). Better than MYVI
1000cc (as claimed)

4) Fuel - When enquiry about it, the salesman didnt mention it directly
to me. Somehow bring me a long talk and then just tell me the figure. He
said is much efficient compare to Kelisa and MYVI. Around 17 - 18km/l ...
as per factory testing. So when reach to our hand, we cant expect it to
perform around 18km/l ... should be much lower ... ~15km/l

5) Tyre - The spare tyre look very small and indeed is a really spare
tyre - only used when one of the tyre inflated. Somehow will reduce the
weight of the car... better FC.

6) Sideskirt - Noticed they putting the sideskirt for viva (all model).
Look low and anytime can hit the bump ... roughly around 10 to max 15cm
height (from bottom to skirting).

7) Weight - Somehow the weight for viva just around 10KG different from
Kelisa. Not much different.

Lastly, the pricing. I was quite shocked to see the Full Spec (Premium
for EZi) is costing RM44K++ with ABS, EBD & Air Bag. I might just add
another RM2K and get a 1.3cc MYVI standard and slightly much bigger.

This is my review... and somehow the salesman keep on pushing me for
buying it. No no...

This was a comment from AutoExpress UK for the former Daihatsu Charade which have similarity with Viva...

There's no need to play Give Us a Clue when it comes to making up your mind about Daihatsu's new Charade. Although the model won't be on sale in the UK until July, Auto Express has driven it first - and we can deliver our verdict now.

Priced from around ΂£7,000, the Charade will be one of Britain's cheapest cars, and feature a three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine which offers economy of 60mpg and a useful 58bhp. The Daihatsu is most at home in the city, where its narrow track and upright driving position make for good visibility and manoeuvrability. Headroom in the front-wheel-drive supermini is generous, although it feels a little cramped across the shoulders. Fully laden, the three-door struggles to carry more than four adults, but stowage space is more generous, and the 30/70 spilt-fold rear seat gives genuine versatility. The system is not as clever as Honda's seating in the Jazz, but at least it folds flat.

On the road, the steering is direct, and light to touch, the suspension firm, and the ride quite hard. The engine is well insulated from the cabin, too. While its distinctive beat is easy to hear, the noise never becomes invasive. At low speeds, the light, agile Daihatsu proves great fun to drive. However, it's not such good news on the motorway. With a maximum speed of 100mph, the car is strained at cruising speeds, despite its well built five-speed gearbox. It's capable of covering long distances, but every mile feels like hard work.

That said, the costs of running the Charade are undeniably low. And build quality is good, too; despite some thin plastics and cheap-feeling fabric, you get the impression that the car will prove fairly durable. The Daihatsu is also pretty stylish. Our vibrant blue model certainly turned heads; other colours include lime green and yellow, so exhibitionists are well catered for. In all, it looks an interesting addition to the class.

timing chain is only for myvi model. it is better compare to conventional timing belt due to durability of wear and tear....but it cost a bomb and major repair if "damaged"....

timing chain is basically maintenance free, and breakdown rate is very very low, sure cost a bomb like K-kaki said, but not all advance or new engine used timing chain now days, coz scrap car policy ,timing chain is heavier give performance a minor drawback, and bill of material cost higher, this make the maker consider.

so by the time to change the timing belt, your car could be sold. or in other country is scrap metal, anyway, about 4 to 7 years change a timing belt isn't to costly at all, i bet around 1 or 2 out of 1000 owner change the belt more then 1 time(per car). of coz, P1 is an exception.  Grin, so please don't concern chain or belt so much.
